We’re thrilled to return to Townsville with our award-winning* Engineering Link Project, proudly supported by the Queensland Government and Central Queensland University. Designed for students in Years 10–12, this hands-on program offers a unique chance to work alongside professional engineers and university experts—an ideal opportunity to explore engineering as a potential future career.
We are very proud to extend our partnership with CQ University into North Queensland.
When: Friday 26 September 2025 (8.45 to 3.00 pm)
Registration is FREE thanks to the generous support of Engineers Australia and CQUniversity. Students register themselves (due to the information and permissions we need from each child) via our website.
Students participate in two different engineering workshops, designed to challenge their problem-solving skills through demonstrating creativity, knowledge, and teamwork.
In each workshop, a professional engineer will outline their career and what a day in the life of an engineer is, then present a problem or scenario that needs a solution. Testing materials, completing design calculations, and submitting a proposal are all key components of the process. If approved, students will. The engineer will evaluate each solution against the criteria and provide constructive feedback.
- Work in teams
- Work with professionals
- Test materials
- Listen and collaborate
- Test and retest
- Use the maths and science you learn
Throughout the day, participants can speak to, and work with, visiting professional engineers. This unique opportunity provides valuable insights into the life of an engineer.
Students will also experience CQ University Engineering by working in their labs and getting a feel for university life. This is worth the price of admission on its own.
Registration opens at 8.45 am, with the event starting at 9.00 am. The event concludes at 3.00 pm.
Students are to bring their own morning tea and lunch.
Quotes from 2024 Participants:
Both of the activities were really engaging and fun
The most valuable aspect was the integration of various principles into one activity in the workshop, allowing you to understand the purpose of the actions we are doing such as the calculations done in the civil engineering workshop. This led to a valuable experience which opened my eyes to new aspects of engineering..
It was fun and enjoyable whilst I was still able to learn new ideas and concepts
