2026 Queensland Bridge Competition

The Queensland Bridge Competition is returning in 2026!

We will again test in different locations around Queensland, so teams can come together and test their designs on our testing rig.  Can anyone beat the current record of 86.6 kg, set in 2022?

The main testing day will be in Brisbane City (QUT Gardens Point) and will be live-streamed. We also provide alternative testing options – teams can courier their bridge to us where we’ll record the test for you. You can then watch the recording at any time.

Live Testing Sites – as sites become confirmed, they’ll be listed below

Prizes:

In 2026, a total prize pool of $2000 (thanks to the Queensland Government) will be shared across up to 7 teams.  All prizes are presented to the team’s school for distribution as it sees fit, but we encourage the schools to pass on the prize money to the winning team.

  • First Place – Largest Peak Load (across all testing locations) – $700
  • Second Place (across all testing locations) – $400
  • Third Place (across all testing locations) – $300
  • Local Testing Location Winner – up to $100 per location.
Note: Teams are only eligible for one prize.

Expressions of interest are now open for 2026!

Schools that express interest will be sent 1 load hook (if requested in the EOI).

Once teams are organised, schools are required to complete the school registration (the form is available in the “Competition Resources Folder” – link below) and return it at least 3 days prior to the testing day. Additional hooks are available on request. ($10 per hook + extra postage).

Free Teacher Information and Professional Development Webinar

TELG, the Department of Transport and Main Roads and Engineers Australia will again hold a free webinar for teachers and students in April, 2026.

TMR engineers explored the physics and engineering of bridges, and we provided hints and tips on the competition itself. The recording is available below.

All forms and other information can be downloaded from the Competition Resources Folder (including Risk Assessments, Certificates of Currency, Registration forms, support materials etc).
