Engineering Link in Victoria in September!

We are very pleased, thanks to LEAP into Engineering and La Trobe University, to offer year 10, 11 and 12 Victorian students a second Engineering Link Project for 2015.

If your school is a LEAP School, then please click here to visit their page – they have a number of sponsored places for students.  TELG also has a very limited number of scholarships for students – please contact us for an application form.

An Engineering Link Project follows the design – make – appraise model of problem solving, so each group will fully prepare their solution on paper, present it to the engineer for approval and then have the opportunity to construct their solution.  Each group’s solution will be tested to ensure it meets the criteria set, then extended beyond the scope of the design, usually to destruction!

Students will participate in a different engineering module each day, facilitated by a local engineer.  Each module is designed to showcase an example of engineering in that discipline, as well as being:

  •  hands-on
  •  practical
  •  relevant to maths and science being studied at school
  •  interesting
  •  challenging
  •  fun!

Students can choose two experiences (one per day) from the following choices: robotics, electrical and communications engineering, civil engineering, aeronautical engineering (RAAF), mechanical engineering and environmental engineering.

Teachers are welcome to attend (at no cost), but there is no requirement for you to accompany your students.  Please contact us if you would like to volunteer (we pay all reasonable expenses).

Basic Details:
Where: La Trobe University, Bundoora Campus, Melbourne
When: 28 – 29 September, 2015
Cost: $66 (includes lunches, project materials and registration.

Click here to download a flyer to distribute to your students.  Students can register by clicking here.

Too far to travel to La Trobe Uni each day?
Fully supervised twin-share accommodation is available in a hotel close to La Trobe University (BreakFree Bell City).  Students will be escorted to and from the university each day (by tram – students will need their own Myki card), and fully supervised by teachers in the evening.  An extra nights’ accommodation (before the event) is also available.

Thanks to LEAP in Engineering, all meals are covered for students who have to travel!

What have past students and parents said about this Project?

I would like to personally thank you for the outstanding communication and support with the program. Before it I was unsure of the university course I wanted to do but after going to this my focus has changed with the knowledge of what engineering really is as all I am able to experience is civil engineering. Its extraordinary the different areas in engineering and the careers that come from each one.

Thank you once again.

Thanks so much to you and your team. We have a two hour trip home and Max has not stopped talking about his camp!

Sounds like everything was totally awesome and all the people were great. He is going to speak to his Principal about doing a presentation to talk about awesome opportunities and putting yourself out there.

Thanks again, pretty sure we now have a budding engineer (mechatronic??) in our midst!
