Join the Spaghetti Bridge Competition

The Spaghetti Bridge Competition is back and underway for 2022, and it’s not too late for you to be involved.

The Spaghetti Bridge Competition is a brilliant opportunity for students from years 5 to 12 to test their creative and design skills in STEM, by building a bridge that weighs less than 300g to span at least 35cm, out of only store-bought spaghetti and glue.

Their first attempt in 2021 – brilliant to see such effort and enthusiasm

With grateful thanks to the Queensland Government, through the Department of Transport and Main Roads, and Engineers Australia, we are offering a total prize pool of $2000.

This year, the competition will test bridges in four locations –

  • North Brisbane (St Eugene College) – 18th October
  • Brisbane (QUT Gardens Point) – 19th October
  • Townsville (JCU Campus) – 27th October
  • Rockhampton (Heights College) – 2nd November

If you can’t make it to any of these locations, you can courier or post your bridge/s to TELG and we’ll test them for you, record the test and provide you with the video of the test for later analysis.

Earlier this year, we held a webinar where an engineer from TMR provided unique and detailed insights into bridges and we discussed the competition and different ways schools can become involved. You can watch the recording of the webinar here.

Full details about the competition, including Rules and Conditions, Entry forms, and more details about resources you can access are all on our website.
