2018 Spaghetti Bridge Competition Winners!

Thank you very much to all the schools and students who participated in this year’s Transport and Main Roads / Advance Queensland Spaghetti Bridge Competition.

We had a huge increase in participation in 2018, and we are very grateful to the teacher who supported their students to enable them to participate.

Before we announce the winners, we would like to take this opportunity to thank our major sponsors, the Queensland Government Department of Transport and Main Roads, Advance Queensland, Engineers Australia and James Cook University.  Without their generosity and support, the competition would not have been possible.  We also thank the engineers from the Department of Transport and Main Roads who kindly gave up their time to speak with some of the schools on our testing days.

Thank you also to Allan Beasley from TAFE South Bank, Shelley Christie from James Cook University College of Science and Engineering and Nelia Manansala from Chisholm Catholic College for hosting the testing days.  Thank you also to St Eugene College for hosting the Brisbane North test day.

Twenty-six schools from across Queensland nominated over 125 teams for this year’s event.  Unfortunately, a number of schools and teams withdrew before the testing days for various reasons.

An outstanding 347 students from 107 teams presented a completed bridge (nearly double the number in 2017!) for testing.  After rigorous testing, we are very pleased to announce the winners!

A full list of teams’ results can be downloaded here.

It was very exciting to see so many Primary and Middle School students participating this year.

We will be in touch with the winning teams in due course to make arrangements to present their prizes.  Photos and videos will be uploaded and shared to your school shortly after that.

We know that the teams all had a great time and we look forward to bigger and better in 2019.
