Bridge Competition
A hands-on engineering challenge for Years 5–12
The Bridge Competition is a fun and challenging opportunity for students to test their engineering skills and experience the planning, creativity, problem-solving and teamwork involved in engineering.
Students can enter individually or through their school, with teams of up to four students.
What is the competition?
Teams are challenged to build a bridge using store-bought spaghetti and glue, with a total maximum mass of 300 g, including the load plate.
A load hook is provided for testing, and its mass must be included in the final bridge mass.
The competition gives students the chance to apply engineering thinking in a practical, engaging and highly memorable way.
Teacher Webinar
To support participating schools, TELG offers a free professional development webinar early in the competition timeframe.
Registered teachers receive access to the webinar recording.
The webinar features a civil engineer and explores forces in bridges, along with practical advice for entering the competition and designing strong spaghetti bridges.
