We are proud to continue to be associated with JCU, and are excited to present the North Queensland Engineering Link Project again in 2022.  Following on from the success of the single-day workshop in 2020, we aim to provide an exceptional engineering experience while ensuring that all relevant and required COVID-19 conditions are met.

This year’s event will be held on Saturday 16th July.

For 2022, the Engineering Link Project will be a one-day event for Year 10, 11 and 12 students who are interested in finding out what engineering REALLY is!

Everyone will participate in two workshops in different engineering disciplines. Each workshop is designed to challenge your creativity, your knowledge of the maths and science you are learning at school, and introduce you to the engineering paradigm.

A professional engineer will outline their career and what a day in the life of an engineer is, then present you with a problem or scenario that you will have to solve in teams. You will test materials, complete design calculations and submit a proposal. If approved, you will construction your solution. The engineer will evaluate each solution against the criteria and declare the winning team.

Students can choose from up to 5 different disciplines over the two sessions, providing unique and valuable insights into this exciting career.  Students will be asked to make preference selections closer to the event, via email.

Students will also experience JCU Engineering by working in labs and getting a feel for university life.  This is worth the price of admission on its own.

Registration for the Engineering Link Project is from 8 am on Saturday 16th July at The Science Place, JCU Townsville, and it starts at 8.30 am. The event concludes at 4 pm.

Subsidised accommodation* (on-campus) is available for the night before the event, for those who are traveling from out of town. Please see the ticketing information for details.

Description:

Engineers combine mathematics and science with communication skills, critical thinking and management skills to design and develop products and solutions for real world problems. From designing computer chips to constructing dams – engineers work ultimately to advance society.

Engineering at JCU commences with a common first year, than offers a choice of engineering specialisations to students in their second year. The degree requires twelve weeks of paid, industry-based placements providing students with valuable industry experience and contacts. Engineering design, project management, team work and effective communication are incorporated throughout the program.

The capstone to student learning is the final year engineering thesis project, which gives candidates the opportunity to carry out a significant research or design task, under the leadership of a supervising member of academic staff. JCU graduates are highly sought after by employers, with most of our students finding employment in their final year of study
